Sudhir starts Indian school, open to all

Delhi Public School

With the acquisition of the Indian School of Uganda by Sudhir, this leaves Delhi Public School as the only institution using the Indian curriculum in Uganda.

Years back Sudhir Ruparelia started off by acquiring a primary school, an international school followed, then a University and now another international school.

This is business mogul Sudhir Ruparelia, who has started Delhi Public School International, adding it to the chain of education institutions in the country. The new international school is located in a stone throw’s distance from Kampala International School, and will follow the Indian curriculum.

It is a new international school in Uganda, born through the merger of two different schools– Indian School of Uganda and the Delhi Public International School. The school, is not only for Indian. It is open to all nationalities.

The acquisition of Delhi Public School International, adds to his multi-million dollar investments in education which include Kampala Parents School (2004), Kampala International School of Uganda (KISU) and Victoria University.

Over the years, thousands of Ugandans have been travelling to Indian colleges and universities, especially in Pune, Bangalore and Delhi.

It is the same reason; Sudhir argues it is better to have institutions in Uganda, offering the same quality of education as those in India. “Delhi Public International School will also be a great school, preparing ground for students who want to go to India later, for further studies,” he says.

Is he making a massive move to invest in schools now? Yes! “I intend to have more five schools in the next five years in Uganda.” Some of these schools will be at the secondary level. “Some of these schools will be for day scholars in the city centre. We also intend to have a school, outside Kampala city, among the new schools we are planning to construct,”

“I know that there is massive potential in the growth of the country’s education sector, and some of these schools will be at low cost, but of great quality, for our people to afford,” he explains.

Sudhir is the Chairman of the Ruparelia Group of Companies which, on top of education, also deals in banking, insurance, hospitality, conventions and leisure centres, property development, property management and floriculture among others.

He is the single largest private property owner in Uganda. Forbes, which quotes the Uganda Land Alliance, says he owns close to 300 prime residential and commercial properties in some of Kampala’s neighbourhoods alone.

Birth of Delhi Public International

In January this year, Sudhir acquired Delhi Public School International from Sehgal Jatinder an Indian national. At the time of its acquisition, it has 300 students.

Two months later, he took over the management of Indian International School, which at the time had 350 candidates from Girisch Nair and his other Trustees of the school then. Nair is the Chairman Managing Director of Trusted Technology Associates.
